Please let our character's voice match the voice we selected in our preferred language...

  • If you're one of the people like me who's a bit... particular about this type of thing, you picked a specific voice for your character with a tone and style fitting for their personality. You wanted their grunts, their laughs, and attacks to sound a specific way and you chose a particular voice for that character for a reason. What you also may not realise and what I did not realise before our most recent patch, is that whatever voice line your character speaks when it mounts is actually also tied to your characters specific voice option.

Now with our recent patch and this recent translation addition... as a person who picked a specific Chinese VA for my character... what I have come to discover upon switching my game to English with friends for a laugh, is that my character sounds completely stupid, especially when mounting, in English.

So now I'm basically left with two options.
Option A. Sound completely stupid to everyone else in English when I mount, while personally getting to enjoy my characters Chinese voice.

Option B. Sound completely stupid to in Chinese to myself locally, while I sound like a fairly reasonably character with an English voice that fits the image I want to everyone else.

I know it's a lot to ask but it'd be nice if they let our character voice match the voice we selected in our preferred language option. Personal customisation is huge in a game like this and I find this to be about the same as if I picked a specific shirt or outfit for my character to wear, and then somehow I ended up being the only person who could see it. I should probably be happy they let us keep the original Chinese VA's at all considering this is pretty much a "problem" that stems from that to begin with, but please, somehow, if it's at all possible can you just make our character sound how we actually chose them to sound?

Changed the title of the thread from “Can our character's voice match our preferred language options selected voice?” to “Please let our character's voice match the voice we selected in our preferred language...”.
  • I also mentioned this issue here: Voice Acting: Alert new players to their options (CN or EN)

I was personally never affected since I've only ever played the game with Chinese VA, but I 1000% understand the frustration of those who play with English (......though I can't imagine how anyone can possibly tolerate or even prefer that train-wreck <X).
It's unfair that English VA users get their character voice messed with without any choice in the matter. They chose a complete, Chinese voice beforehand, and now it's in English with an entirely different personality and tone from what they originally picked.

I feel players should be given a free, single-use ticked to change their character voice, at the very least - especially if this means they're going to be "localizing" the combat sounds as well to match the English voice.

On the bright side, this has motivated even more people to switch to the original Chinese VA - so now they can allow their ears to recover and experience the story and characters as it was originally intended xD

I think "It's unfair that English VA users get their character voice messed with without any choice in the matter." is my biggest part of the issue.

I also would like to see this

But I do question just how likely it is to happen.
My biggest fear is that they'll just be like... We didn't intend to keep the Chinese voices to begin with, and now it's caused nothing but problems, so they decide to take it all away and only leave us with the English VA's

  • They wouldn't remove something the players begged for and that the devs were kind enough to implement for us. It's also not the Chinese VA's availability that's the issue here - it's the delayed implementation of English voice overs, which would have still occurred either way. We'd still have the original character voices before they implemented the English. It all comes down to poor planning and execution of localization.
(Edit: Unless you were specifically referring to the non-intention of keeping CN character voices within the English VA setting. Sorry if I misunderstood >< lol)

So in fact, it's entirely the ENGLISH dub that is causing nothing but problems lol
Regardless, it's a simple issue with a simple fix. Either give English VA users a 1-time ticket to change their character voice within the new options, or players can go with the Chinese VA settings instead to get their original voice back.

OR, they could just combine both into character creation as CN voice 1-6 and EN voice 7-12. So everyone would get their original voice back, and players can choose an English voice from options 7-12 if they wish.

(Edit for mods: I don't understand why this thread was moved to "Technical help & bug report". The "Localization Feedback" section would be more appropriate.)

This is probably ideally what is easiest and what I'd like to see.

It probably seems like I'm complaining about nothing, but I am assuming that at some point moving forward more and more combat noises and sounds are going to be replaced with English VA's and it's going to be pretty disconnecting from a character customisation standpoint.

People's character choices will literally be changing before their eyes, without their consent, on a patch to patch basis

The complaints and concerns are warranted. Now we'll just have to wait and see how they handle this going forward.

And thankfully there's always the Chinese VA setting to have the original auditory experience, regardless of how it turns out <3

  • Another thing about the character voice. To try each one out all you get is grunts and yells, there should also be a comment or sentence in the voice preview, as grunts and yells don't tell you anything. I loved my Chinese voice on my character, I didn't know what she was saying but she always sounded enthusiastic and happy. Also were the mount up comments direct translations? because they are really rather awful. So this week I bought all the voice options (shouldn't have had to buy them as I'd already chosen at character creation) to see which one I now preferred, they are all as awful as each other, it would be great if we could have the option to turn that off, as each time we mount it makes me want to stuff something in her mouth to shut her up.
