Over the years there were many good looking wuxia themed games. Among them were Moonlight Blade, Justice Online,-these games had good graphics and their stories have cinematics making it really immersive. The best part was the character creation, I spent hours just trying to make my character look good and another few hours just thinking of the name. I didn't play these games long though because I didn't understand what they were saying and this really ruined my experienced of playing foreign game. I was always willing to play these games the moment they hit NA or Global(atleast) but these games never made here. Both of these games have good classes too. I like the assassin/poison user and the tangmen classes that uses puppets and hidden weapons. It's really cool. I never heard of THIS game, Sword of Legend, and I didn't know much about the classes. As I look into it..they were..underwhelming to say the least. Most of the classes that I thought were nice weren't in THIS game which is weird how those other two games in some way or another have some kind of variation of them. Then what pisses me off the most is the fact that the class thats similar to the pure sword duelist like the Taibai from MBO is gender locked to the midget and the males only and not for the women. Another let down was the character creation. It doesn't look as nice as the other two that I mention. BUT I bought the pack to play the game already and I don't think I'll regret it. The reason is..I've been playing blade and soul and I'm caught up on the story already. FFXIV is also caught up-GW2 is also caught up. So this game is a new game I can go on a different adventure until the other ones call me back with new expansions. But still..I'm a bit disappointed with the selection of classes and the character design.

Beggars can't be choosers but still the classes are..

Hi Tomotomi, glad to know that you have a great interest in wuxia games. I was also a Moonlight Blade player and I loved their story. I'm a newbie in FFXIV. I understand your feeling that THIS game really isn't providing all the fancy classes right now. However, they will release new classes and also unlock gender in the near future. Right now in Chinese server, there are nine classes in total.
I do want to clarify that THIS game is not wuxia but xianxia. While wuxia typically uses traditional weapons from Chinese culture, xianxia is not restricted to that and will have more magic component.
Also, I am not sure where you read about gender locked, but that class (I think you mean spellsword) similar to Taibai is not gender locked. Actually all 6 classes releasing now are not gender locked. Nor do they offer any midget option yet for this six classes.
Regarding to assassin, I know not all people like scythe, but reaper is actually a assassin-type class. They have stealth skills and they post explosive damage in stealth within a short time. And reaper is one of the difficult class to play like most other assassin classes.
I am sorry if this doesn't meet your expectation for a wuxia game, but I hope you can find fun in this xianxia world, also a popular but maybe localised theme in China.

yeah i know about the genre. like bns people say it's wuxia but it's more like a hybrid of xianxia and wuxia. the genre is not the problem though because even MBO is borderline xianxia considering some classes "USE" magic swords and some yinyang magic stuff.
blade and soul have a nice selection of classes though and they are where i'd like them to be. i just wanted a dagger user/assassin and a pure sword fencing style like taibai from mbo. what we have in this game though is quite the opposite. ive always like spear users since i love drgs from ffxiv but in this game..the spear is double bladed on both ends. that look aesthetically unappealing..unlike the spear class from the other chinese mmo i mentioned they got their weapon concept right.
btw i just noticed that the class that i'm referring to is not released yet. i was referencing the chinese site the whole time but i just realized that there's actually only 6 classes here after you mentioned it. i hear them say longyin. thats the class that im eyeing because i think it's most similar to taibai BUT when i went to see the character creation it's only for kids and males which is a disappointment because i wanted to make female characters only. once again they mess up on certain things that should've been a no brainer..thats the weapon. instead of a straight sword or a saber it's a friggin blade for chopping horse legs...you see what i mean? those other mmos they got their classes right and they look nice..but here it's all over the place and it's not the genre thats the problem..its the developer's class concept.
even though im criticizing this game i hope you're not offended. the fact is..i already paid 100 bucks so im going to try it whether i like it or not.

Oh I totally understand. I played bns for a year and it doesn't feel like wuxia for me. MBO is a typical wuxia but classes like tianxiang uses umbrella as their weapon...you know, magic make things fancy.
I'm also a big fan for spear! I played shenwei in MBO and drgs in ffxiv. And I can tell you most Chinese players hate this double bladed spear of this spearmaster. I played spearmaster for two years and finally they give a weaponskin that is not double bladed. And I REALLY don't like how they design the spear. Most spear weaponskins are just ugly to me
All those complaints being said, I think this class plays cool. The hit effects are awesome and I still feel excited with my ugly double-ended spear in hand
.
And I never thought reaper is an assassin-type since... who carry that big scythe and hide themselves?! I'm not a fan for assassin but I do like that scythe. I played reaper and found out it's actually an assassin, so I turn to play mainly healing subclass. And now people say...who carry that big scythe and heal people?!
I know. This is weird.
Now that I know you mean longying. Yes that class is gender lock with only adult male and midget female. The midget female is actually the new content in current Chinese release. Before there's only adult male. The weapon they use is not sword, as you see, but Tang Dao, a traditional Chinese weapon similar to the Japanese Katana. I'm not sure if you know the later new classes of MBO but longying is very similar to their new class called Shendao. Taibai is more similar to spellsword here I feel. Regarding the gender lock, Chinese players are also talking about this all the time so the developers are definitely hearing the voice. They do have plans to unlock gradually.
I think the developers are aiming for some atypical weapons in their mind and that definitely comes with players feeling awkward. One of the classes in the Chinese server, called zhaoxian, uses a ring-blade like weapon. But they are actually archers. I am still waiting for the second subclass and hoping that it will actually be a ring-blade...

exactly..it's really awkward how the classes are conceptualized. taibai to me..if i was to define their combat style. i'd say that they are an assasssin swordsmaster. there's rarely any game that gives me this feel of a class and even bns blademaster or dancer doesn't give me that vibe thats why im so stuck on the taibai class lol spellsword don't really look that part..they're too magical? they're kind of like blademasters actually but they will be my first class though since other classes don't really have weapons that i would see myself using. maybe for support side i'll use bard since the guzheng or idk what term it is..looks pretty cool. still not sure if i should just role as support and get carried though..might be easier for me hahaha

Spellsword has two subclass, a melee one and a long-range one. The long-range one use magic but the melee one is physical damage. If you so like taibai, I suggest try the melee subclass. It is the only DPS with three skills that grants you invincibility. Spellsword has always been the famous class in Chinese player, maybe the same reason as you said. Bard has really nice class outfits. The biggest problem about bard is that, both DPS and healer subclass cannot move while casting. Support classes are important for a team
It might be you who carries others.

meh..staying in one place is not my playstyle BUT i'm a decent black mage in ffxiv and raids in that game are created to screw us over. only the best of the best can keep consistent dps and not be floor tank lol now i wonder for SoL if the mechanics for boss and raids will be anything near fun like ffxiv. i think im more hyped up to go as bard more now since it seems harder to use because of the stationary style. also you said they have nice outfits? where can i see these? i would like to check them out.

As a newbie, I haven't got to try the fun raids in ffxiv yet
but I would say the mechanics for boss and raids are pretty fun for SOLO.
Yeah if you would like to take challenge, then bard is one you can try. There's thread posted that has all class-specific outfits. The one for bard is here: Gear Sets and Weapons Preview - Bard

Raids are super fun..a lot of people are dying HAHAHA! But trials are nice too we die just as much. You should definately soak up on FFXIV before SoL hits our servers-unless you're currently playing the chinese version then nvm or don't want to use 14 bucks per month. Thanks for the outfit link.

I think it's a bit harsh to say class design is bad just because it doesn't meet your expectations. I find it rather refreshing to see a new approach to classes instead of the usual classes that are literally in every other game.
I don't speak Chinese and I am by all means no expert on the Gu Jian Qi Tan story, but I can imagine that the gender locks have a lore background seeing as the game is a whole franchise with different stories etc. (much like FF too).
I wouldn't expect FF style raids in this game, there's a lot more down time where you can just dps the boss, so rotation consistency is key. Mechanics are fewer and often involve some sort of DPS check. I don't mean to say it's super easy, just quite a bit different to FF's heavy mechanics focused raiding style.

criticisms are criticism mate. i never expected anyone to agree with me. i'm only trying this game for the story because im caught up with most of my main MMO. so really i have no reason to favor SoL yet and considering what you said about boss mechanics..im a bit disheartened now lol going back to classes-the classes are not to my play style. i usually roll as assassin/ambush fighting style class but this game don't offer that and like what i said with Tracy, the weapons are all over the place. out of all the class i would've went with with lancer or spearmaster but it's double friggin bladed..i always though the sith lords that use double lightsabers are ret#%!@&. so obviously i feel the same way about this weapon. don't be offended if you're really hyped for the game. im just calling it for what i see.

I am sorry if this doesn't meet your expectation for a wuxia game, but I hope you can find fun in this xianxia world, also a popular but maybe localised theme in China.
yeah i know about the genre. like bns people say it's wuxia but it's more like a hybrid of xianxia and wuxia. the genre is not the problem though because even MBO is borderline xianxia considering some classes "USE" magic swords and some yinyang magic stuff.
blade and soul have a nice selection of classes though and they are where i'd like them to be. i just wanted a dagger user/assassin and a pure sword fencing style like taibai from mbo. what we have in this game though is quite the opposite. ive always like spear users since i love drgs from ffxiv but in this game..the spear is double bladed on both ends. that look aesthetically unappealing..unlike the spear class from the other chinese mmo i mentioned they got their weapon concept right.
btw i just noticed that the class that i'm referring to is not released yet. i was referencing the chinese site the whole time but i just realized that there's actually only 6 classes here after you mentioned it. i hear them say longyin. thats the class that im eyeing because i think it's most similar to taibai BUT when i went to see the character creation it's only for kids and males which is a disappointment because i wanted to make female characters only. once again they mess up on certain things that should've been a no brainer..thats the weapon. instead of a straight sword or a saber it's a friggin blade for chopping horse legs...you see what i mean? those other mmos they got their classes right and they look nice..but here it's all over the place and it's not the genre thats the problem..its the developer's class concept.
even though im criticizing this game i hope you're not offended. the fact is..i already paid 100 bucks so im going to try it whether i like it or not.

well if thats the case but it doesn't really matter for me personally because i only like to play as female characters. the avatar you see for my picture is a male lalafell from ffxiv. i role as one whenever i continue with the main scenario quests but when im caught up with the expansion i switch to female aura or miqote lol considering how this game is gender, race/age, and class locked unlike FFXIV i have no choice but to go as the gender that i would like seeing most of the time. naturally the thought of using the horse blade chopping class is out of discussion for me since they offer only male and midget.

The classes do look a bit generic and the one thing I really dislike with these times of games is the over use of particle effects. It really does not give you any sense of impact with your abilities. Unlike a game like TERA where you can definitely feel like you are hitting something. It remains to be seen how the combat will feel but from the look of it, it's pretty generic. Like the other poster said I pre-purchased the game so of course I'm hoping it will be fun.

~ Shadyhaxx ~Haha ur the opposite
for me, there can never be enough particle effects! I need glow and particles everywhere!!
Love that this game is not so dull~
AION for example knew how to do itah!
Also I cannot quiet understand how the classes seem generic. The generic I know would be something along the lines of: Knight, Cleric, Ranger, Mage - done.
