FAQ: Swords of Legends Online Shutdown

When will the shutdown take place?

• The shutdown will take place on 30.06.2023 at 10:00 CEST (01:00 AM PDT)

Why is Swords of Legends Online being shut down?

• We launched Swords of Legends Online with the hopes of giving our players an amazing gaming experience, and indeed we were very pleased with the launch that exceeded our expectations. Nevertheless, despite our initial high hopes and successes, the player numbers necessary to keep the game running in the longer term could not be maintained.

Will there be an option for players to migrate? What will happen to our accounts, currency and progress?

• As a result of significant differences between the game versions run by Gameforge and Wangyuan Shengtang Entertainment, in addition to the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), it is not possible to migrate player accounts or currency.

What about the Gameforge accounts?

• Players can continue to use their Gameforge accounts to play other Gameforge titles such as AION or Metin2 even after the Swords of Legend Online servers are shut down on 30th June 2023. We’d be very happy to see you again on your adventures in other realms.

What will happen to the Swords of Legends Online forums and social media channels?

• We are still in discussions with the developers as to what will happen to the social media channels (including those which are not reachable in China). It has been confirmed however that the forums will be closed.

Are there any events planned before the servers shut down?

• No, there will be no further events in the game.

Why have players not received any information about this shutdown for so long?

• As previously mentioned, we’ve been engaged in serious discussions with the developers for some time, trying to find alternative options and other paths to take but didn’t reach a satisfactory solution. Once it became clear to us that there really were no other alternatives, we prepared and released this announcement.

Swords of Legends Online Closure

It is with great sadness that we at Gameforge today announce the shutdown of Swords of Legends Online effective 30th June 2023.

This difficult decision has been made in mutual agreement between Gameforge and developer _Wangyuan Shengtang Entertainment_, following several months of discussions as we carefully considered the overall MMORPG landscape, and explored every possible avenue for keeping the game going.

The MMO market is fiercely competitive, and despite our best efforts – including the release of the 2.0 update, making the game free to play, as well as further content patches along the way – we’ve found that the player numbers simply aren’t strong enough to sustain the game and the high-quality fantasy MMORPG experience that Swords of Legends Online players deserve.

Note on Payment

Payments will be deactivated to coincide with this announcement, however, you can still spend any currency you have previously purchased in the Crimson Coin Shop. From 1st June (2:00 PM CEST), everything in the following categories will be discounted by 90%: Outfit, Hairstyle, Weapons, Festive Clothing, Footsteps, Accessories, Mount and Residence.
